Methi (Fenugreek leaves) is one of the main vegetable in kids "don't like" list. To make this nutrient rich green vegetable  "Numero Uno" in  kids favorite foods , you must try this super simple recipe.Also onion chillies stuffing gives this common recipe a unique twist. It's like you have never tasted it before!!!!

Preparation time: 30 min

Serving size: 3-4 people

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 bunch Methi (fenugreek leaves)plucked ,washed and finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Parsley seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Sesame seeds
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • 1 tsp grated garlic
  • 4 Tbsp Oil or Ghee
  •  Salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp Asafoetida
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 4-5 chillies finely chopped
  • water to knead the dough
Procedure:
  1. Take all the ingredients  in a big bowl except oil .Mix them gently .
  2. Now gradually add the water to mixture and knead into a smooth dough.
  3. Keep it aside for ten minutes.Meanwhile put your nonstick frying pan on stove and turn on the heat.
  4. Make small balls of dough,stuff them with one spoonful of chopped onion and chillies and coat them with some dry flour and roll them in medium sized circles with rolling pin.
  5. Shallow fry them in oil or ghee till they become nice golden brown and serve hot  parathas with cucumber raita and mango pickle.

Ingredients:
  • 21/2 cups  Whole Milk
  • 4 Tbsp Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Custard Powder
  • 2 Apples
  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder
  • 1/8 tsp Nutmeg powder
  • 1 Tsp Poppy seeds powder
  • Crushed pistachios for garnishing
  • pinch of salt
Procedure:
  1. Pour 2 cups of milk in a heavy bottom pan and turn the heat on .  When the milk starts boiling add sugar in it and keep stirring.
  2. Use  remaining half cup milk to dissolve custard powder. Now slowly add this custard powder paste to boiled milk. Whisk it continuously so that there are no lumps.
  3. Let it cool for 10 -15 minutes. Mean time peel and grate the apples.
  4. Once the custard is cold enough add apples,cardamom powder,nutmeg powder and poppy seed powder,salt  to it and mix it well.
  5. Garnish with crushed pistachios and serve it cool.
Tips
  1. You can always substitute 2% milk for whole milk and any artificial sweetener for sugar ,if you are watching calories.
  2. Always use sweet apples,if apples are sour its gonna ruin the test of kheer.
  3. For making poppy seeds powder you have to first roast them for 2-3 minutes and then grind them.


Chhole aka. chickpeas curry is one of the most popular dish in indian cuisine whether its a weekend buffets in indian restaurants or potluck parties. But the thing is its little too spicy for kids so its not at all kids favorite. I always wanted this protein packed beans to be part of my kids diet,So I prepared my version of chhole with very little spices. It turned out so good.It s worth trying.Here is the recipe

Preparation time:45 min
Serving size:3-4 people.

Ingredients:
1 cup dry chickpeas
2 Onions
2 tomatoes
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
1/8 tsp asafoetida
1 bay leaf
2-4  black pepper corns
2 cloves
1 small piece of cinnamon
2 tsp coriander cumin powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp kasoori methi
1/4 tsp dry mango powder
4 tbsp oil
11/2 cup water
Salt to taste

Procedure:
1. Soak the chickpeas overnight in a warm water and next day pressure cook them.
2.In a nonstick pan add 1 tbsp oil and turn the heat on. Add roughly chopped onions. Keep stirring till they become golden brown. Once onions are fully cooked add ginger garlic paste and stir it for 1-2 min.
3.Now add chopped tomatoes to pan and let it cook for 5 min.Once the tomatoes are done,let the mixture cool for 5 min and then make a fine paste of it.
4. Now add remaining oil in the same pan and turn the heat on. Once the oil is hot enough add cumin seeds and asafoetida. After that add onion-tomato paste to the oil.Give it a stir every 1 or 2  min till oil starts to separate on edges of  a pan.Its time to add all the spices and salt and give it a quick stir.
5.Finally add cooked chickpeas and water to desired consistency and let the gravy boil.
6.Garnish with chopped cilantro and raw onion rings and serve hot with roti or paratha

Tips:
1. When you are transferring the curry to serving bowl,make sure you take whole spices(bay leaf,cinnamon,clove and black pepper) out.
2. Also make sure chickpeas are fully cooked. You can use canned chickpeas also,they are easily available in grocery stores.
3. You can adjust proportion of spices as per your taste.




We eat cereals almost everyday. Try this spicy and nutty  twist on cereal for a change.It tastes so good and its a perfectly healthy snack.

Ingredients:
Rice krispies cereals-4 cups
Corn flakes-3 cups
Crispy corn puffs-1 cup
1/4 cup chopped almonds
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1/4 cup chopped cashews
1/4 cup peanuts
1 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/4 tsp asafoetida
4 tbsp canola oil
Salt to taste
Sugar to taste



Procedure:
1.Mix all the cereals in a big mixing bowl
2. Add turmeric powder,red chilli powder,salt and sugar to cereal mix
3.In small nonstick pan add oil and turn the heat on.
4. When the oil is hot enough add cumin seeds, asafoetida and chopped nuts.
5. Once the nuts are properly roasted(It takes about 2-3 min). Turn the heat off and add  this nuts mixture to cereal mix.
6. Now give a really good stir  to mixture so that cereals are coated with spices.
7. Let it cool for 5 min and its ready to serve.


Tips:
1. If you want to make this recipe  for more people just increase the quantity of each ingredient as per your
requirement.
2. You can use any brand cereal.I normally use kellogg's and it always turns out good.
3.If you want to make it more spicy you can add more chilli powder,but for kids its always better to use spices moderately.

Paratha is a perfect indian meal where you  can sneak in all the healthy and nutritious vegetables for those little picky eaters. A dollop of yoghurt make this meal complete.Its a complete nutrition in a circle

1/2 cup grated Carrot
1/2 cup grated Cabbage
1 tsp Salt
1/4 tsp Asafoetida

1/2 tsp Sesame seeds
1 tsp Cumin-coriander powder
A pinch of red chilli powder
4 Tbsp Oil or Ghee
1/2 cup Milk to knead the dough

Procedure:
1. Take all the ingredients  in a big bowl except oil and milk.Mix them gently .
2. Now gradually add the milk to mixture and knead into a smooth dough.
3. Keep it aside for ten minutes.Meanwhile put your Tawa on stove and turn on the heat.
4. Make small balls of dough and coat them with some dry flour and roll them in medium sized circles with rolling pin.
5. Roast them in oil or ghee till they become nice golden brown and serve hot hot parathas with cold yoghurt.



Kande pohe is a everyday  breakfast recipe in Maharashtrian  families.Its very simple and quick  to prepare. Try this delicious and healthy recipe with peas and peanuts. It tastes so yummy. My kid loves it I'm sure your kids will love it too.

Preparation Time: 15-20 minutes
Servings: 3-4 people


Ingredients:
3 cups Poha(Thick flattened Rice)
4 Tbsp Oil
1/4 cup peanuts
1/4 cup green peas
2 medium size onions
2 chillies
4-5 curry leaves
1 tsp cumin seed
1 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp Asafoetida
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
Sugar to taste
1 Tbsp lemon juice

For garnishing
2 Tbsp cilantro
2 Tbsp grated coconut

Procedure:
1. keep ready finely Chopped onions ,chillies ,curry leaves, cilantro as well as lemon juice and grated coconut.
2. Gently wash the flattened rice in colander and keep it aside.
3. Now put non-stick frying pan on stove and turn it on to medium high.
4. Add the oil in pan and once the oil is heated enough add cumin seeds + mustard seeds+curry leaves+ asafoetida +chillies to pan
5. After that add peanuts and keep stirring for about 2-3 minutes and then add the green peas.
6. once peas are nice and tender then add onions. Saute the onions and put the lid on to steam it for about 1 minute.
7. Now you can add turmeric powder ,salt and sugar. Give a quick stir and add poha (flattened rice ) to the mixture.
8. Make sure all the poha is nicely coated with onion mixture . Now add lemon juice and give a nice stir and again put the lid on.
9. Mutter poha is ready . Garnish with chopped cilantro and grated coconut and serve.
