- 21/2 cups Whole Milk
- 4 Tbsp Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Custard Powder
- 2 Apples
- 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder
- 1/8 tsp Nutmeg powder
- 1 Tsp Poppy seeds powder
- Crushed pistachios for garnishing
- pinch of salt
- Pour 2 cups of milk in a heavy bottom pan and turn the heat on . When the milk starts boiling add sugar in it and keep stirring.
- Use remaining half cup milk to dissolve custard powder. Now slowly add this custard powder paste to boiled milk. Whisk it continuously so that there are no lumps.
- Let it cool for 10 -15 minutes. Mean time peel and grate the apples.
- Once the custard is cold enough add apples,cardamom powder,nutmeg powder and poppy seed powder,salt to it and mix it well.
- Garnish with crushed pistachios and serve it cool.
- You can always substitute 2% milk for whole milk and any artificial sweetener for sugar ,if you are watching calories.
- Always use sweet apples,if apples are sour its gonna ruin the test of kheer.
- For making poppy seeds powder you have to first roast them for 2-3 minutes and then grind them.
